Lixia District successfully held the "International circle of Friends of Intangible Cultural Heritage" cultural exchange activities between China and foreign countries
2025-04-22
The "Intangible Cultural Heritage Global Connections" series of events, jointly organized by the Communist Youth League Jinan Lixia District Committee, Lixia District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, and Lixia District Library, was successfully held at the Baihuazhou Youth Home in Lixia District. The event welcomed participation from 13 young students of the 2025 "Chinese Bridge" short-term study tour group, comprising members from Shandong Normal University's Confucius Institute at Kenyatta University in Kenya.
The Lixia District Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center carefully selected three representative intangible cultural heritage projects: cloisonné, Lv Family's Traditional Incense Making Technique, and Spring Water Tie-Dyeing. At the event, students from Kenya actively participated, experiencing the unique charm of each intangible cultural heritage project firsthand.
During the Spring Water Tie-Dyeing session, Li Jie, the representative inheritor, explained the specially prepared dyes and tie-dyeing techniques. Participants folded and tied white cloth, then dipped it into a dye solution made from Banlangen. When the ropes were untied, blue and white cloud and water patterns spread across the cloth like ripples on a spring. The students held up their handcrafted tie-dyed scarves, cheering at the magical reaction between water and color.
In the experience of Lv Family's Traditional Incense Making Technique, the students were surrounded by a gentle aroma. Representative inheritor Lü Xuangui brought Chinese herbal medicines such as mugwort, sweet wormwood, and agastache rugosa, explaining the historical origins of incense blending. He then guided everyone through the process of mixing ingredients, grinding them, and wrapping them into sachets.
During the cloisonné-making process, inheritor Zhou Rongrong introduced the historical development and innovative inheritance of this craft. Foreign participants were fascinated by the intricate craftsmanship and vibrant colors. They personally stuck gold wires into patterns and filled them with colorful glazes. When the finished products emerged, they marveled at the luxury and ingenuity of this craft, once an exclusive imperial technique.
This event was not only an intangible cultural heritage experience but also injected profound cultural heritage into Lixia District's construction of an international first-class central urban area. In the future, Lixia District will use intangible cultural heritage as a bridge to connect with more "international friends," allowing ancient techniques to shine new light in modern civilization.
